Review and Giveaway: Blue Basil Chocolate Brownies

6:00 AM Posted by Emily Carlisle (MTJAM)

I'm passionate about locally produced food so when I found out that Blue Basil Gourmet Brownies was nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, I couldn't resist their offer to let me try some.  The lovely rustic packaging was topped off with a gorgeous ribbon and label, with a personal note to accompany the mini menu.  Laura had selected me four brownies from their extensive range, including two of the seasonal specials - Chocwork Orange with Cointreau, and Rudolph's Rumnut.

With a box of brownies starting at £11.50 for six (including p&p), I had initially thought their prices were a bit steep.  After all, I can whip up a batch of brownies for a couple of quid, surely?  But these are no ordinary brownies.  Dense, rich and intensely flavoured, they should almost be served as desserts in their own right, or perhaps cut into small pieces and offered with coffee.  The Classic Chunky Chocolate had the texture of an exotic truffle and tasted absolutely exquisite.  I shared the box with my husband and my mother in law and all agreed they were delicious.

The Blue Basil Brownies are definitely a luxury item and I can think of a number of people who would be happy to receive them under the tree this Christmas.  They would be perfect for sending as a thank you, or perhaps as a gift when you visit a friend for dinner.

As you know, when I review a product I like to be able to share it with my readers where possible.  Unfortunately I ate all of my brownies, but Blue Basil has very kindly agreed to give a box away to one UK reader.  The package will contain eight gourmet brownies, including their Christmas flavours Chocwork Orange & Rudolph's Rumnuts, Gingerbread and Classic chocolate chunk.
